In London, the Prime Minister’s Office confirmed that Keir Starmer discussed with Sharif the importance of these talks, and both sides agreed that they represent a vital opportunity to make progress toward a ceasefire and a lasting peace.
In contrast, U.S. President Donald Trump escalated his tone, stating that Iran has no “negotiating cards” except its ability to influence navigation through the Strait of Hormuz, and accusing Tehran of trying to “blackmail the world” through vital waterways.
These contrasting positions reflect the uncertainty surrounding the upcoming talks, amid Iran’s pre-set conditions and the heightened U.S. rhetoric, which puts the chances of progress to a real test in the coming hours.
